Italy succeeds in struggle against arms smuggling

In brief: Transportation of weapons to Iran is under the UN’s embargo.

Italian border police arrested seven persons in suspicion of illegal transportation of weapons to Iran. The names of arrested are covered but it is known that they are Italians and Iranians.

The prosecutor Armando Spataru has today stated on the press-conference in Milan that five of the arrested are Italians and two of them are from Iran. Those two citizens of Iran are suspected in being agents of secret service of Iran. The police is also searching for another two Iranians.

Transportation of weapons to Iran is under the UN’s embargo. Italia is a trade partner of Iran. The country also supports tightening of sanctions against Iran because of its unfair nuclear program.
