Dockers´strike in Finland

Finnish ports are paralyzed

In brief: Experts consider that losses due to the dockers’ strike can reach €280 million per day.

Today all trade ports of Finland are paralyzed due to the strike of dockers. The strike has been started at 6:00 a.m. (local time) and has been continuing.

The strike has been started after the employers and representatives of labour unions did not succeed in reaching agreement on working conditions of dockers. The negotiations between them were held through the mediation of the Ombudsman of the country Esa Lonka.

About 80% of country’s export goes through the ports. Experts consider that losses due to the dockers’ strike can reach €280 million per day. Also there is a threat of reducing import.
