The ships are being rescued from the Baltic Sea ice

The rescue-boats have already freed the ferry Amorella

In brief: Icebreakers are currently rescuing ships trapped in the Baltic Sea ice.

Approximately 50 ships stuck in the ice of the Baltic Sea near the Swedish shore. Though Swedish nautical administration warned the steamship companies about the unusually thick ice layer in that region, some ships ignored that warning, getting trapped in the ice as the result.

The rescue-boats have already freed the ferry Amorella with approximately thousand of passengers on its board. This morning the ferry safely returned to the port of Stockholm. Three more ferries managed to make their way through the ice by themselves.

Two cargo boats, the Sea Wind and the Regal Star are currently waiting for the icebreakers to arrive.
