Another volcano is set to erupt in Iceland

Volcano Katla is going to follow Eyjafjallajokul and erupt this year

In brief: President of the Iceland announced that another volcano may erupt this year.

The eruption of Eyjafjallajokull volcano threw Europe into state of chaos, leading to paralysis of European air communication. Millions of people spent five days in the airports waiting for the opportunity to return home and airlines suffered great financial losses. But it seems that the current volcanic eruption isn’t the worst thing that awaits Europe this year – another Icelandic volcano, which is much bigger than Eyjafjallajokull is likely to erupt this year.

The records show that in the past 2,000 years the eruptions of Eyjafjallajokull were followed by eruptions of Katla volcano. The eruptions always happened within half a year so it is possible that Katla is going to follow Eyjafjallajokull this time too and erupt this year. The consequences of Katla eruption are currently impossible to predict because it is going to depend on situations with the winds but it is obvious that this eruption will be more powerful than the Eyjafjallajokull eruption that the world is witnessing now.

President of the Iceland, Olafur Grimsson, has made an official statement about the possible Katla eruption, asking the leaders of European countries and representatives of world airlines to prepare for the greater volcanic eruption in Iceland.

It seems, from the reports, that the air traffic was unnecessorily kept on hold causing people to suffer.

I hope they resume the services as early as possible.
