Two other volcanoes may erupt after Eyjafjallajokull

The eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull may be followed by Katla or Hekla

In brief: Two other volcanoes may erupt in Iceland.

The eruption of Eyjafjallajokull volcano that brought chaos to Europe, paralyzing air communication and keeping millions of people trapped in the airports for five days is feared to be followed by other Icelandic volcanoes. The Eyjafjallajokull volcano has two possible followers – Katla and Hekla.

The Katla volcano is most likely to erupt after Eyjafjallajokull: records from past 2,000 years show that most of the eruptions of Eyjafjallajokull were followed by eruptions of Katla within half of year. Though the consequences of possible Katla eruption are impossible to predict now, it is obvious that the eruption will be more powerful than current because Katla is much bigger that Eyjafjallajokull.

There is also information about possible eruption of the Hekla volcano, which is one of the most powerful volcanoes in Iceland. The volcanologists are currently arguing about whether this eruption is likely to occur or not.
