In brief: The ash cloud may cause acid rains in Moscow.The cloud of volcanic ash that covered European countries led to paralysis of air communication because the volcanic dust from the cloud was considered to be dangerous to airplanes. But it seems that the ash cloud contains not only the volcanic dust but also acid and alkaline salts that may cause acid rains in Moscow and its region.
According to the scientists, the rain water absorbs various admixtures from the atmosphere such as car’s gases, discharges of plant facilities and dejections. So if the acid and alkaline salts from the ash cloud are absorbed by the rain water, Moscow should be prepared for the acid rains.
Though the scientists reassure: the content of dejections in the rain water is expected to be low and so these rains shouldn’t affect health.
