PACE severs political relations with Belorussia

PACE calls Belorussia to obey European standards

Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) by majority vote has officially adopted to stop any political contacts with Belorussia. The resolution says that Belorussia doesn’t shows enough progress in order to correspond the standards of Council of Europe.

As an example, the Council of Europe tells about recent death penalty of belorussian citizens Andrey Zhuk and Vasily Yuzepchuk for murders. The sentence was executed in March this year secretly and relatives were informed only several days later. Besides, there were complaints of the executed people under consideration in the UN Committee for Human Rights. Also PACE notes violations of rights of Polish minority in Belorussia.

Belorussia is still remaining the only country in Europe where death penalty is legalized. The international organization Amnesty International has before called Belorussian authorities to impose a moratorium for death penalty.
