Serbia is ready to give up its independence to the European Union
Boris Tadic applied to the EU
In brief: Belgrade has already made the first step to join the European community.Serbia that used to defend its independence and separated status finally decided to join the European community. Its President Boris Tadic has officially applied to Sweden Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt for Serbian participation in the EU.
But in reality Serbian joining to the EU is doubtful in recent time. The development of the country does not meet completely the European standards. Besides Serbia goes on holding opposite position about independence of Kosovo trying to join it back. The problem is also in escaped leaders of former Yugoslavia Serbians Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic who are accused of military crimes by International Court. But Belgrade authorities persuade the EU in doing their best to arrest the criminals.
Meantime Belgrade has already made the first step concluding with the EU treaties for trade and visa-free status for Serbians in most of European countries.
