The European Commission demands assurance about gas supplies

Though both Russia and Ukraine say that there’s no need to worry

In brief: The EU wants to be sure that there would be no second gas war between Russia and Ukraine.

The European Commission demands Russia and Ukraine to assure regular oil supplies to the EU countries. Last January Russia blocked the flow of gas to Ukraine because of price quarrel, leaving Europe without gas for three weeks, so the EU now wants to avoid similar situation.

It is said that Russia activated an “early warning mechanism” to warn the EU about possible oil supply interruptions, saying that the arguing about transit conditions between Russian and Ukrainian gas companies is the reason.

The European Commission assures that there is no threat to households and business because of the gas stocks in the EU countries that could last for a few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry says there is no need to worry about the interruption of oil supplies because the question of the oil supply amounts between Russia and Ukraine is almost settled. Russian Chamber of Accounts is also confident that there would be no another gas war between two countries.
