BHP Billiton annual profit doubles

BHP Billiton becomes richer

In brief: BHP Billiton still falls short of absorbing the Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan. At the same time, BHP Billiton profits continued to grow steadily.

The world’s largest mining company BHP Billiton has published data on double-plus growth of annual profit, which may contribute to the process of a hostile takeover of the Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan.

BHP Billiton’s net profit (in the fiscal year to end June 30) rose to $ 12.7 billion comparing to $ 5.9 billion the previous year. At the same time, analysts expected a profit of $ 13.3 billion due to higher copper, nickel and aluminum prices. Earlier this year demand for metals was falling. According to BHP Billiton, the final dividend amounted to 45 cents per share, compared with 41 cents per share the previous year.
