Portugal Parliament is on the way to legalize gay marriages
Portugal parliamentarians voted for gay marriages
In brief: The legalization of gay marriages in Portugal follows the lifting of the ban of abortions. On Friday January, 8, the Parliament of Portugal adopted the bill for legalization of gay marriages. Portugal Prime Minister Jose Socrates said that it was the next step forward to the modernization of the poorest country of the EU. It is a quite strange mind about modernization, isn’t it?
The bill was prepared by the ruling Socialistic party. The opposition was against that bill ensuring that such questions had to be voted on the national referendum. But anyway the document was adopted by majority vote. In order to become a law the bill has to be signed by the President of the country Anibal Cavaco Silva. In the case of President’s veto the Parliament anyway is entitled to overcome it. If the bill becomes a law Portugal will be the 6-th country in Europe where gay marriages are allowed following Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. Remind that before the Portugal Parliament lifted the ban of abortions. Together with gay marriages it really threatens to reduce people in the country.
