Korea: nuclear security in exchange for peace treaty

Korea is going to get back to the negotiations on its nuclear program

In brief: Korean authorities apply the USA for peace treaty guarantying to get back to the negotiations on its nuclear program.

The official Pyongyang has at least proclaimed the conditions of its participating in the negotiations on its nuclear demilitarization. In exchange it claims the conclusion of peace treaty with the USA and lifting of sanctions against Korea.

Such statements of Korean authorities followed the visits of Stephen Bosworth, the US special representative on nuclear demilitarization problems, and Robert King, the US special representative on human rights protection. In April last year Pyongyang ignored the six-party negotiations on nuclear program of North Korea after international community had condemned the tests of Korean missile. Later Korean nuclear tests were sanctioned by the UN. In the end of last year Korean authorities informed about the willingness to cooperate with the USA in order to reduce that controversy.
