Light a candle in remembrance of Holocaust victims

Today is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day

In brief: 65 years ago the most horrible concentration camp of the Third Reich was liberated by the Soviet army.

Today is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day adopted by the UN Resolution # 60/7 in 2005. The arrangements in remembrance of victims are taken all over the world. The international conference “Auschwitz – the memory, responsibility, education” dedicated to the liberation of concentration camp “Auschwitz” by the Soviet army is being held today in Poland.

The concentration camp famous as the “factory of death” was situated 70 km far from Krakow surrounded by 45 camps for killing people. The concentration camp was liberated on January, 27, 1945 by the 1st Ukrainian front of the Soviet army. According to the historical data, the number of Holocaust victims is more than 1.2 million people. The President of Ukraine Victor Yuschenko has today awarded 121 Ukrainians.

The basic events in remembrance of Holocaust victims are being held today in Poland. First the conference is to be organized with the participants from 35 countries. The results of the conference are said to be sent to schools in order to educate. After the official part the European forum for human rights is planned in Auschwitz. Meantime in Krakow The third International Holocaust forum “Let My People Live” has reunited the participants from 44 countries, including 60 members of the European Parliament.
