In brief: Lucio Rossi has concluded that workers incorrectly soldered the contacts.Italian physicist Lucio Rossi has analyzed the factors caused the breakdown of Large Hadron Collider (LHC). According to his conclusions, the main reason of the accident has become the human factor.
Remind that LHC was started on September, 10, 2008, but after 9 days of working its activity was interrupted due to the accident. The defect of electrical contacts caused the appearing of arc discharge which crashed the wall of the tank with liquid helium. The time of repairing of the apparatus took more than a year.
Lucio Rossi has concluded that workers incorrectly soldered the contacts. While repairing, failures were detected in thousands of other contacts. Another reason of breakdown is supposed to be in use of silver and tin alloy in order to connect electrical cables with copper details.
In spite of the fact that after its second start the LHC works without serious breakdowns, the max power it will be able to reach not earlier than 2013. Besides, the scientists will have to stop the LHC and change the wide number of electrical contacts before.
