Tsunami in the Pacific: emergency is declared

Enormous tsunami has covered Chile coast

In brief: The President of Chile has declared emergency in the country.

Waves of 1.5-2.5 m high have covered several towns on Chile coast. According to the data of Tsunami Warning Centre in the Pacific, tsunami has already reached 11 towns of Chile including Kokimbo, Valparaiso, Talcahuano, Concepcion and Santiago.

There is no information yet about the number of victims due to the disaster, but according to the previous data, they are at least 120 people. The President of Chile Michelle Bachelet has declared emergency in the country. Remind that before enormous wave has covered the island of Robinson Crusoe. Partial evacuation is even declared on Easter Island. Warning siren has sounded also on Hawaii. The earthquake has reached Argentina and Peru.

Meantime the citizens of Columbia can sleep quietly: experts of National tsunami warning centre ensure that enormous wave don’t threaten Columbia’s coast. Also Russian meteorological services report that possibility of tsunami near Sakhalin, Kuriles and Kamchatka is unlikely.
