The good news: some European countries have opened their airspaces for passing over. But the airports are still closed. To fly over some parts of Europe is possible because the cloud of ash comes down and releases the air in higher layers of the atmosphere.

Flights in Europe are delayed due to the cloud of volcanic ash

Cloud of volcanic ash formed due to the eruption in Iceland is covering European countries. It breaks the air communications in Europe. Great Britain, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Norway and Netherlands have closed all airports. Also some flights to Europe are delayed from Russia, Germany and Baltic countries.

Somali pirates are captured by French Navy

French Navy has captured 35 Somali pirates while two-day lasting patrols of the aquatory close to Somali coast. It is considered to be the most successful anti-pirates operation since the beginning of Atalanta operation on December, 2008.

Drugs traders are captured in Italy

On Monday, February, 22, Italian police exposed the international traffickers’ gang. Generally there were citizens of Morocco and Albania. The basic part of the operation was held in Milan. In result there were confiscated about 700 kg of hashish, 15 kg of heroin and unidentified amount of cocaine.

Air strikes in Europe: where does it lead to?

Portugal Parliament is on the way to legalize gay marriages

On Friday January, 8, the Parliament of Portugal adopted the bill for legalization of gay marriages. Portugal Prime Minister Jose Socrates said that it was the next step forward to the modernization of the poorest country of the EU. It is a quite strange mind about modernization, isn’t it?

European Union celebrates first day of Treaty of Lisbon

After years of political uncertainty the Treaty of Lisbon signed by EU leaders in December 2007 is finally in force. The treaty is said to cut the number of national vetoes, mainly in the area of internal affairs and justice, and to increase powers of the European Court of Justice, MEPs and the Commission. It also creates the position of EU President and foreign minister. Herman Van Rompuy and Baroness Catherine Ashton who have been appointed to the posts joined other EU officials on celebrations in Lisbon.

Swine flu: the more we fight – the more it spreads
