The crew of specialists from British Petroleum has put down to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico a protective dome in order to stop the leakage of oil. The weight of the dome is about 100 tons. It is to stop the leakage of oil to 85%. The oil will be pumped to the tankers on the surface.

Before, the smallest source of oil leakage was closed using valve. According to the experts’ results, the average speed of oil leakage is about 5 000 barrels per day; and the amount of leaked oil is about 2.5 million gallons. The international organization “Greenpeace” has already called this disaster in the Gulf of Mexico “the oil Chernobyl”.

Remind that oil began to leak in the Gulf of Mexico near the coast of Louisiana after the accident on the floating platform “Deepwater Horizon” occurred on April, 20. There was an explosion followed by the fire after which the platform sunk.
