The gas war: Russia leaves Belarus without heating

Russia has put forward an ultimatum and threatening to turn off Belarus gas

In brief: New problems appeared in Minsk. Russia wants to supply gas Belarus.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the head of Gazprom to Belarus for five days to address the issue of repayment of debts for Russian gas. “In accordance with the terms of the contract, we have every reason to reduce the volume of gas deliveries to Belarus in proportion to debt owed to Gazprom – said Alexei Miller met with the president of Russia.

“Let us then do so: given the fact that we cooperate with Belarus in partnership spirit, we give a five-day period for our colleagues to ensure that they have determined how to behave in future,” – said Medvedev. “You walk out on the heads of Belarusian institutions that deal with this issue and invite them as soon as possible to repay debt. Failure to do so would then have to apply strict measures”, – Medvedev instructed Miller.
